The Atlantic Brewing Company is pleased to announce the acquisition of Bar Harbor Brewing Company. This brewery is known for such award-winning brands as Thunder Hole Ale ^TM and Cadillac Mountain Stout ^TM.  

Atlantic Brewing Company plans to utilize both the Town Hill and Portland facilities to cooperatively produce beverages from both companies. Though produced at shared facilities, the products will be completely distinct. The differing formulas and methods of production will reflect the individual styles of Bar Harbor Brewing and Atlantic Brewing.  In addition, both Bar Harbor and Atlantic Brewing will be packaged, marketed and distributed independently. Dave Kilgour, former brewer for Bar Harbor Brewing, will be on board to help produce and market the Bar Harbor brews.

Through this acquisition we believe we benefit the local microbrew market in a number of ways. First, we are able to preserve a well-respected brand. Second, we are able to maintain local control of the brands. Many mergers result in control going out of state. We didn’t want to see that happen to these brands.

Atlantic Brewing has plans to ramp up total production for the 2009 season with the addition of Bar Harbor Brewing’s line of products. Despite the economic conditions, there still seems to be a strong consumer desire for well crafted micro-brewed beers.
